Poisson Geometry of Discrete Series Orbits, and Momentum Convexity for Noncompact Group Actions

چکیده
The main result of this paper is a convexity theorem for momentum mappings J :M → g∗ of certain hamiltonian actions of noncompact semisimple Lie groups. The image of J is required to fall within a certain open subset D of g∗ which corresponds roughly via the orbit method to the discrete series of representations of the group G. In addition, J is required to be proper as a map from M to D. A related but quite different convexity theorem for noncompact groups may be found in [16]. Our result is a first attempt toward placing momentum convexity theorems in a Poisson-geometric setting. A momentum mapping is a Poisson mapping to the dual of a Lie algebra, but it takes more than the Poisson structure on the target manifold even to formulate a convexity theorem. As we explained last year’s Conference Moshé Flato Proceedings [20], it seems that a proper symplectic groupoid is the right extra structure to put on the

متن کاملInduction of Hamiltonian Poisson actions
We propose a Poisson-Lie analog of the symplectic induction procedure, using an appropriate Poisson generalization of the reduction of symplectic manifolds with symmetry. Having as basic tools the equivariant momentum maps of Poisson actions, the double group of a Poisson-Lie group and the reduction of Poisson manifolds with symmetry, we show how one can induce a Poisson action admitting an equ...

The classic Atiyah-Singer index theory of elliptic operators on compact manifolds has been vastly generalized to higher index theories of elliptic operators on noncompact spaces in the framework of noncommutative geometry [5] by Connes-Moscovici for covering spaces [8], Baum-Connes for spaces with proper and cocompact discrete group actions [2], Connes-Skandalis for foliated manifolds [9], and ...

Introduction. Let G be a Lie group and M a compact C manifold. In [2] Anosov actions of G on M are defined and proved to be structurally stable. In this announcement we are concerned with the foliation ^ of M defined by the orbits of G. Under the assumption that G is connected, # is C stable (3). If G is connected and nilpotent, G has a compact orbit (4). If G is merely solvable, however, there...
متن کاملOptimal reduction
We generalize various symplectic reduction techniques of Marsden, Weinstein, Sjamaar, Bates, Lerman, Marle, Kazhdan, Kostant, and Sternberg to the context of the optimal momentum map. We see that, even though all those reduction procedures had been designed to deal with canonical actions on symplectic manifolds in the presence of a momentum map, our construction allows the construction of sympl...
